Healthcare is a political topic that is very controversial in the United States of America. Many times republicans and democrats disagree on how to properly regulate and offer health coverage to the American people. There are some people that believe it is time that America implement a universal health care system, and those that believe that healthcare should remain private. Whether the plan is to make it universal or make it privately owned everyone deserves to be healthy. For many years millions and millions of Americans have gone without healthcare and have suffered a great deal because of it. Tax paying citizens have had to forfeit going to the doctor because the cost of medical attention is far to great, so many would rather risks getting extremely sick or dying. People who have had cancer, aids, and other serious deceases haven’t received proper treatment because they have no health care or they have minimum coverage that takes care of nothing in relation to serious diseases. For years now, this has been a major issue in campaigns, during debates, and during every presidential term. The one thing that is hard to understand why the richest country has the most individuals without health care. The worst part about the health coverage crisis is that the majority of people that are uninsured are children. One would assume that a country like the United States would implement some type of system so this was not the case.
In recent days a significant step toward universal healthcare has been made by the United States government. A bill was signed into law on March 23, 2010 ensuring that three million more Americans have medical insurance by the year 2014. The best thing about this bill, is that it requires every American to obtain health care and if not to be fined. This stipulation will push individuals to get healthcare and improve the quality of life for all Americans. Another stipulation to this bill includes the mandate on all businesses to insure all employees that work for companies, with no exceptions to small businesses. Now, an individual can chose his. her own health care, but it might be more expensive than what an employer will charge. Additionally, employees that are fired or laid off may not lose the health care. This bill is needed in that it ensures that all Americans have a chance to be healthy, and that the government is doing all they can to ensure the safety of the public. Many republicans to not agree to this bill, because they believe it is unconstitutional, and that this requirement to obtain health care goes against a persons rights. The bill was signed into law with no republican support behind it and is the first time that the United States has interfered with health care this much. Many liberals and democrats are fans of this bill and believe it to be a good thing for the country. Many other countries have universal health care and still manage to run smoothly, the United States can do the same.
